There are two key conditions for the storage of coffee: protection from light and a one-way valve. Although some pictures show packaging made of different materials such as plastic, glass, ceramic and tinplate, although they may have good sealing properties, chemical interactions between coffee beans or powders can still cause flavor loss.
Sometimes, you will see glass jars filled with coffee beans in coffee shops. This is mainly for decoration or display, and the coffee beans inside are not suitable for consumption.
Nowadays, a one-way valve has become a standard for coffee bean packaging. Its main functions are reflected in two aspects:
First, it can effectively block external air from entering the packaging and prevent the coffee beans from oxidizing and deteriorating.
Second, it can discharge the carbon dioxide released by the coffee beans out of the packaging. The darker the roasted coffee beans, the more carbon dioxide they release. With a one-way valve, there is no need to worry about the packaging bag breaking due to excessive internal pressure, thus avoiding losses.
